Rick Edgeman

 Rick Edgeman earned the Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Wyoming (USA) and has worked in quality management since the mid-1980’s when he was a young faculty member in the Center for Quality & Applied Statistics at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

 He is an Academician of the International Academy of Quality (IAQ) and President’s Distinguished Scholar and Professor & Chair of Management at Fort Hays State University (USA). Concurrently he is Professor of Sustainability & Enterprise Performance at Aarhus University (Denmark), Honorary Professor of Engineering Operations Management at Southern Denmark University, and Shingo Institute Faculty Fellow and former Research Director. The Shingo Institute is home of the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence, the global standard for lean-oriented excellence. and prior posts include QUEST Professor & QUEST (Quality Enhanced Systems & Teams) Honors Program Executive Director in the Smith School of Business and Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland; Statistical Science Department Professor & Chair at the University of Idaho; Professor & Center for Quality & Productivity Improvement Director at Colorado State University; and Visiting Professor of Quality Sciences at Uppsala University (Sweden). He has also served in visiting roles at the University of Lugano (Switzerland), Division of Quality & Environmental Management at Luleå University (Sweden), Tomas Bata University (Czech Republic), and the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin en Yvelines (France).


His research spans Sustainable Enterprise Excellence, Six Sigma Innovation & Design, Quality Management, Social-Ecological Innovation, and Complex Management Systems – the topic of his 2019 book by Routledge. Rick has delivered numerous keynote addresses related to these topics in the Netherlands, Brazil, Spain, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, Belgium, Mexico, and the United States. Rick has authored about 135 journal articles and book chapters and a similar number of published book reviews and conference articles with work appearing in in volumes such as Sustainable Business Models and the 7th edition of Juran’s Quality Handbook and in journals such as Business Strategy & the Environment, Corporate Governance, Communications of the ACM, Total Quality Management & Business Excellence, IEEE Transactions on Reliability, International Journal of Quality & Reliability Management, The TQM Journal, Journal of Management Systems, Leadership and Organizational Development Journal, Business Process Management Journal, and The American Statistician. He Co-edited Measuring Business Excellence and is Associate Editor of Total Quality Management & Business Excellence. He has worked intensively at the intersection of quality, sustainability, and innovation and this resides behind inclusion on the Executive Advisory Board of the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD). 

In 1998 Rick established the former Multinational Alliance for the Advancement of Organizational Excellence and in 2000 was one of only six academicians selected for inclusion among 21 Voices of Quality for the 21st Century by the American Society for Quality. Other honors include Marquis Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World in Quality, Marquis Who’s Who Among Scientists & Engineers, Manchester Who’s Who Among Executives & Professionals, and Honors Edition, Marquis Who’s Who Among American Teachers. As a serial academic innovator, he has created or seeded quality and sustainability-oriented programs at universities in the United States, Denmark, and Sweden.
